The centering tong serves to insert the specimen and complies with ISO 148 and ASTM E23.

The specimen is put between centering and counter bearing and with the centering facing downwards in the anvil. The length of the centering is the same as the distance between the changeable anvil inserts, thus placing the specimen in the center.

The conventional evaluation of notch-bar impact test only provides part of the findings and contains several inaccuracies. Therefore, the pendulum impact testers and drop impact testers are metrologically upgraded to realize instrumented Charpy, Izod and Brugger impact tests. By means of measurement technology applied on the striker, force and the resulting bending can be measured without contact. This way, no energy leaves the test.

The appeal of the measurement technology lies in the external triggering of data acquisition, the high sampling frequency, and the possibility to include further transducers for various strikers.

Application

The Cryostat is used to cool the specimens. This way, it is possible to determine the relation between the impact strength and the temperature.
