Drop Impact Tester

The drop impact testers are designed to carry out Charpy and Batelle drop weight tests on metallic materials.

Instrumented Drop Impact Tester FWi150

Application

The drop impact tester FWi150 with instrumentation was designed to carry out Charpy impact tests at  notched metal specimens (according to ISO 148, ASTM E23 and GOST 9454). A striking edge mounted on a double-side guided drop assembly shatters the specimen. The energy of the FWi150 depends on the selected drop height and the corresponding drop weight.

Features

  • Frame with guide rails and electric lifting axis: All bearing surfaces are mechanically processed. The load frame stands out due to its high stiffness.
  • Drop height continuously adjustable by movable crosshead
  • Automatic lifting of the drop weights with safety latch
  • Drop energy regulation according to the adjusted drop height and weights: The drop slide has a basic weight of approx. 3 kg. The weight can be increased up to 8 kg by mounting additional weights. The drop slide is dropped freely from the previously selected drop height between 0.04 m and 2.0 m. This results in a working capacity of 1.1 to 161 J with a drop velocity of up to 6.26 m/s.
  • By means of the specimen feeding, the operator can insert the specimen in the anvil without reaching into the dangerous area of the machine. The specimen is put on the guide groove of the traverse and is then moved on the anvil turning a crank handle by means of a high-helix trapezoidal spindle and a spring system. The guide groove ensures that the specimen is exactly in the centre of the anvil.
  • Operation via clearly structured touch screen interface
  • Safety enclosure with electrical safety switch: The enclosure with safety door meets all safety requirements (complete enclosure according to ISO 13489-1). The safety enclosure surrounds the drop area of the drop impact tester and protects the operator from flying specimen parts and the falling drop slide. Using the safety door, the operator can carry out installation work at the drop slide and the specimen bearing without dismantling the safety enclosure.
  • After inserting the specimen and closing the door of the test room, the door can only be unlocked after finishing the automatic test cycle.
  • Equipment for instrumented impact tests: On the striker, a strain gauge is applied and calibrated. By means of the instrumented striker, the measurement device for instrumented tests and the evaluation software, instrumented Charpy impact tests according to ISO 14556 and ASTM E2298 can be carried out.

Instrumented Accelerated Drop Impact Tester BFWi 1500

Application

The drop impact tester BFWi 1500 especially serves to carry out Charpy impact tests at standard metal specimens notched at one side according to ISO 148, ASTM E23 and GOST 9454. However, other drop impact tests can be carried out, as well.

Features

  • Reliable measurement results: The drop impact tester BFWi 1500 consists of a stiff machine frame as base unit. Its base plate absorbs the impacts introduced over the bearing mount and transfers them to the concrete base. The bearing mount is firmly screwed on the base plate.
  • Intelligent measurement recording and evaluation: The instrumentation of the drop impact tester is a metrological upgrade to carry out instrumented impact tests according to ISO 14556 and ASTM E2298. By means of the applied measurement and evaluation technology, it is possible to determine the characteristics of force and bending depending on temperature and material out of the measured impact energy.
  • Comfortable operation: The drop impact tester is operated with a clearly structured touch screen. In addition, a computer to operate the evaluation software ImpaSax is integrated in the rig. This tool for instrumentation displays the measurement results including force-time and force-deflection characteristics.
  • Flexible adjustment of the impact energy: The impact energy of the drop impact tester can be adjusted by means of three components: 1. the weight of the drop slide with additional weights, 2. the drop height, and 3. the acceleration unit.
  • Safety enclosure with electrical safety switch: The safety enclosure with safety door meets all safety requirements (complete enclosure according to ISO 13489-1). It encloses the drop area of the drop impact tester. Moreover, a hood protects from reaching into the dangerous area of the specimen feeding. By means of two locking switches, it is secured (currentless closed). Only when released by the control, the locking switches and the door as well as the cover hood can be opened for maintenance, inspection and adjusting work. When turned off, all safety devices are active. So, it is guaranteed, that all movable parts are in secure position.
